DISCUS-L Recommended Reading list

One of the best ways to learn about Discus and fish keeping in general is to get your hands on various reference books and do as much reading as possible. The following books are recommended as starters. There are many others out there. All comments are opinions of the List Owner.
Discus Fish - A Complete Pet Owner's Manual (1991)
Thomas A. Giovanetti
Barron's Educational Series
250 Wireless Boulevard
Hauppauge, NY 11788
ISBN 0-8120-4669-2

Comments: This is a relatively small and inexpensive book with lots of
good information. A must for beginners!

Discus Health (1991) Dieter Untergasser TFH Publications Inc One TFH Plaza Neptune City, NJ 07753 Comments: This book is rather expensive, but if you want to know just about anything about diseases, treatments, etc, it's worth it. Not the easiest book to use if you are simply trying to identify a disease based on a symptom your fish shows, but if you take the time to read the book through, it's probably in there somewhere.
Discus In the Community Tank Bernd Degen Tetra Press Distributed in USA by TetraSales (Division of Warner Lambert) 3001 Commerce Street Blacksburg, VA 24060-6671 Comments: This is a good introductory book, both about Discus and about suitable companions for them if you keep Discus with other fish. Although the food section is slanted heavily toward Tetra Bits (not that there's anything wrong with that; it's a good food) the information about Discus themselves and their companions is worthwhile. This book is also relatively inexpensive.
